Atmospheric Emissions monitoring from vessels
Duration: 18 months Prime contractor: BMT ARGOSS (NL)
Contact: Partners: BIRA (B), IOP-TUB (D)
Users: Main aims / objectives Characterise capability of current and planned missions to detect and monitor emissions of trace gases by shipping traffic. This includes nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides and other trace gases of interest for air quality monitoring purposes. The approach is an extension of the TEMIS project and will initially rely on customised processing and integration of available atmospheric measurements from the different satellite observing platforms. Improved characterisation of the behaviour of certain trace gases (eg nitrogen oxides) in the atmosphere will then be integrated. Finally, capabilities of new observing systems (eg GMES Space Component) will be considered. |
