ADB has initiated a project for capacity building for DRF (Disaster Risk Finance) to enhance disaster risk preparedness of Bangladesh, where a disaster risk model will be developed. The model requires geo-information as input and plans to exploit in-situ data regarding physical assets and other disaster risk information. The EO project will link to the ADB project by providing datasets that support assessment of nature of disaster and catastrophe risk profiling: probability of occurrence, and the potential loss of, or impact on, life and physical capital. The delivered information will include land use and land cover, a Digital Elevation Model, flood history for the period 2000–2014 as well as disaster risk data and maps for floods and cyclones (e.g. flood damage calculations based on land use, flood depths and duration). The areas of interest are mainly Dhaka and Chittagong. |
